INFO: Love Your Bike to get through closures

Last summer, the good weather and the A38 tunnels closures saw people turning to pedal power to beat the traffic. The use of cycle stands in the city centre alone saw an increase of 7%.

With another six-week closure of the St Chad’s and Queensway tunnels due to start at 10pm on Friday 18th July 2014, commuters are once again being encouraged to take to the bike for some or all of their journey.

With this in mind, transport authority Centro has teamed up with BikeRight! to run a series of 'Love Your Bike' sessions at a railway stations and Metro stops in Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry.

Whether you already cycle to your nearest station, or if you are thinking about taking up cycling as part of your daily commute, these events will be a great way to get some useful advice.

BikeRight! mechanics will be on hand to offer free bike safety checks and provide information on free cycling training and cycle maintenance training while Safer Travel Police will also be doing free security marking and selling discounted gold standard D-locks.

Cllr Judith Rowley, Centro's lead member for fair accessible and sustainable transport, said: "Cycling to and from your local station can help connect journeys over longer distances and keep people fit and healthy.

"Love Your Bike events give those who already cycle a chance to have their bikes checked over and can provide some useful advice for people who are keen to start cycling."
