NEWS: Tunnels team wins communications award
The team behind the first phase of the A38 tunnels refurbishment in 2013 has been recognised for their achievements delivering improvements to the 40-year old structures to bring them in line with modern European standards.
Birmingham City Council and Highway’s partner Amey were announced as the winner in the Communications category at the Institution of Civil Engineers West Midlands Annual Awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham.
Local communications agency Syndicate Communications were also recognised for their help in delivering the successful campaign which saw over 200,000 additional journeys made on public transport during the closures.
More than 300 professionals from civil engineering and related industries attended the event hosted by local historian Professor Carl Chinn and featuring music mogul and railway enthusiast, Pete Waterman, presenting the awards.
Steve Feeley, ICE West Midlands regional director, said: "Every year the ICE West Midlands Awards celebrates the magnificent engineering accomplishments being delivered across the region.
"This year's entries demonstrated the investment being made in key infrastructure to improve the lives of those living and working here.
"These projects are delivered by dedicated professionals and the awards celebrate their achievements and the professionalism and dedication they bring to project design and delivery."
The recognition comes as the team are gearing up for the second phase of the works which will see the tunnels completely closed to traffic from 10pm on Friday July 18th until 6am on Monday 1st September 2014.
