INFO: Walk or cycle to avoid tunnels traffic

Birmingham commuters are being encouraged to make cycling or walking part of their journey in readiness for the tunnel closures later this month.

Last year people decided to take the healthy option when heading for work, as well as swapping their cars for public transport, and they are being encouraged to do the same when the tunnels completely close to all traffic from 10pm Friday 18th July until 6am Monday 1st September

To help people try out walking or cycling, there will be led walks and a group bike-to-work into the city on the morning of Monday 14th July. The walks and cycle rides have been organised by Birmingham City Council and transport authority Centro with the support of Health Exchange and Living Streets.

The groups will finish with a free breakfast in Victoria Square at 8.30am – just ahead of the final tunnels closures public information roadshow event. Walkers and cyclists from other destinations around the city are also invited to finish their morning commute at the first come, first served breakfast.
